Having Peace About Things
Have you ever noticed that when you pray about things, you have more of a sense of peace and your mind is put at ease? I never knew my real father, so I would often talk to my uncle about life. I was always more at ease or peace after talking to him. In a much greater fashion, if we communicate to Jesus frequently, I do believe we would have a greater sense of ease. I know from experience that I do. There is no reason to be anxious about anything at all if we only bring it to the Lord in prayer and communicate with the God of the Universe (Phil. 4:6). For those who are not saved, though, they can never have the peace of God until they are first at peace with God.
The Calm in the Storm
You’ve probably heard about the calm before the storm, but how about the calm during a storm. When the disciples were with Jesus in a boat during a fierce storm, they feared for their lives. But when Jesus calmed the storm, He then tried to calm the disciples (Matt. 8:23-27). Even though Jesus was in the boat with them during the storm, the disciples were never in any danger. Just like the disciples communicated with Jesus in Person, we can communicate to God during our own storms because, like the disciples, Jesus was with them in the storm, in essence telling them that He will never leave them nor forsake them. He tells us by His Word never will He leave you, never will He forsake you (Deut. 31:8; Heb. 13:5). We had better not depend on what we feel but on what God’s Word says. That’s the only way we can feel at ease after communicating to God.
A Sense of Ease
When nothing else in this world can ease our minds, God’s Word always can, or at least it should. He says that His Spirit will not depart from us (Isaiah 59:21), that we can have the peace of God, which will guard our hearts and our minds. We have no reason to be anxious about anything (Phil. 4:6-7) because He is our strength and our defense (Ex. 15:2). Neither death nor demons nor power nor height nor depth nor any created thing, either now or in the future, can separate us from the Lord Jesus Christ (Rom. 8:38-39) because our sins were as scarlet, crimson but now are made white as snow and like wool (Isaiah 1:18). Why should we fear and why shouldn’t we have every reason to be at ease? God is always good and He is always faithful, even if nothing else in this world is.
A Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You that You give me peace of mind and put me at ease when I communicate to You and You communicate to me through Your written Word, and for Your faithfulness I thank You in the Great Name of Your Son, Jesus Christ.
